Apple's Quick Look Reveals Your Darkest Secrets



The ability to split up the iPad's keyboard is one of my favorite lesser-known features in iOS. Go to Settings > Face ID and passcode and select Set Up an Alternate Appearance. Option-Command-C: Copy Style: Copy the formatting settings of the selected item to the Clipboard. Although you don't see it, the sizes of the keys on the iPhone keyboard are changing all the time.

Now head to the keyboard, tap the key with the globe icon, and feast your eyes on all the emoticons. To access these effects, press and hold the send icon after you've written a message. The keys on the keyboard will turn blank, and the cursor will appear. Go one-handed: The QuickType keyboard lets you type one-handed, which is great on the bigger devices.

Open Settings→General→Keyboard, and turn off Character Preview. Hard-press three times to select an entire paragraph. It doesn't happen often, but it is possible that your iPhone will freeze up. When that happens, hold the Home and Sleep buttons until the screen goes black, and subsequently shows the Apple logo. Speaking of accented characters, did you know that you can have them enabled through Settings > Typing > Keys.

To save even more time while typing, double tap the space bar to add a full stop (a fullstop plus a space). IOS's QuickType system-wide keyboard is clever at guessing what you're trying to write, and in many situations will auto-correct your clumsily typed screed into something far more accurate.

But for those who really want to get the most out of their iPad, here are a few keyboard shortcuts that can have you typing faster and allow you to get at some special Domains keys quicker. What Apple calls its QuickType keyboard can save you a lot of time, tapping, and errors.
